Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice of York is the Patron of Northwood African Education Foundation. In keeping with the Royal Family's continuing love and advocacy for Africa, her charity work at St George's School allows her to assist others and support those in need.

Malcolm Colquhoun
Malcolm Colquhoun, 65, is a Scottish farmer and landowner who came into education by accident almost thirty years ago, when Katharine Mears (now Lady Colquhoun) asked him to help out with the administrative side of the school she had just founded, Broomwood Hall. He now divides his time between his interests in Scotland and London, with frequent trips to Ethiopia to oversee the progress on St George's School which is, he says "the most exciting thing I have ever done".
Katharine Colquhoun
Katharine Colquhoun trained as a teacher in Australia before returning to her native England and founding Broomwood Hall School in 1984 with just 12 pupils. Subsequently she and her husband Malcolm established Northcote Lodge, a boys' prep. school, in 1993. Between them, the schools now educate 850 children in Wandsworth, London between the ages of 4 – 13. Katharine has two children, Fergus and Georgina, as well as an older stepson, Patrick.
Wendy Bailey
Wendy Bailey has worked for more than 30 years in arts, culture and heritage. In the 1980s she created her own sponsorship consultancy, specialising in sponsorship strategy and activation. Wendy created and ran cross-border sponsorships joining companies in diverse sectors to arts organisations. Since selling, Wendy has continued to consult across sectors and has worked extensively on sponsorships in education and science. She has served as a trustee on the boards of many charities.
Georgina Colquhoun
Georgina Colquhoun spent a month at St George's School in October 2014, setting up a medical database for the children. On returning to the UK, Georgina ran Broomwood in Ethiopia's administration and fundraising for nine months before moving into the Pharmaceutical industry as a strategic consultant. Georgina is passionate about the project and can't help but stay involved.
Rupert Fane
Rupert Fane is a capital markets investment banker with 20 years of experience in Asia, the Middle East and Europe. Over his career, he has lived in Indonesia and Hong Kong and has worked extensively in Africa and the Middle East. He is now a founding partner in Hannam Partners, a UK based financial advisory boutique specialising in emerging markets. Rupert and his wife Nicci live in London with their four daughters.
Nick Wilcock
Nick Wilcock is the co-founder of Pall Mall Management Consultants a venture dedicated to reducing risk in the Finance Industry. Prior to this he worked at Credit Suisse for 25 years most recently holding the position of Deputy EMEA Chief Operating Officer. Nick is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, has a certificate in company of Direction of Direction from the Institute of Directors and a BSc in Chemical Engineering from Loughborough University.
Allie Henderson
Allie has been involved with NAEF since the beginning of the project. A keen traveller and former teacher, she is passionate about the power of education to transform the lives of disadvantaged children and to give them hope for the future. Mother of four ex Northwood pupils, she is currently undertaking a university degree with a specialism in global educational policy and development.

Executive Team

Evrim Maitland
Executive Director - Evrim oversees the expansion of St George’s as well as running operations and fundraising for the charity in London, bringing commercial rigour and operational structure to propel the charity into its exciting next stage of growth. Evrim holds a degree in Engineering and an MBA in Media and Communications. Her background is in manufacturing, engineering and management consultancy, and she has lived in seven countries across three continents.
Lucy Peele
Fundraising Manager - Lucy researches fundraising opportunities and writes grant applications to charitable trusts to work towards the charities fundraising targets to ensure the continued growth of the construction of the school. Previously Lucy worked in investment banking for 10 years within midmarket investor relation and corporate broking.
Alison Mears
Lead Architect
New York-based architect Alison Mears heads up the design team for St George's school. Giving her time on a pro-bono basis, she has overseen the project from the outset. Alison is currently Dean of the School of Design Strategies at Parsons, NY which houses programs in Strategic Design and Management, Urban Design, Integrated Design, and Transdisciplinary Design, having previously served as the director of the BFA Interior Design and BFA Architectural Design at Parsons.
Louisa Robertson
Caroline Patton
Sponsorship Director - Caroline is responsible for the sponsorship of every child that attends St George's. Keeping sponsors up-to-date with news from St George's and organising sponsor events. Caroline is a sponsor herself and is a parent of two girls at Broomwood Hall School. Caroine spend many years working in the media industry as a production manager.
Lucy Brooke
Site Architect
Lucy qualified as an Architect in 2013. Keen for an adventure she left her job in the city and relocated to Ethiopia as a volunteer for 8 months to oversee the start of Phase Two. Since her return in June 2015 Lucy has continued her role as Project Architect on a freelance basis.
Suzanne Thompson
Finance & Accounting
Suzanne ensures the efficient and effective running of the charity’s accounts in Ethiopia and London, monitoring and reporting of financial performance. Suzanne qualified as Chartered Accountant with Coopers and Lybrand. She spent time in general audit and moved to Amsterdam and European Strategy office of PWC. She worked as a part-time accountant for an investment management company for twelve years. Suzanne is now the school secretary for Broomwood Hall School.
Charmian Dawnay NAEF
Governance Support -
Charmian has worked in various different guises for Broomwood Hall School for 25 years and has been involved on the administration side of NAEF from its inception. Prior to joining Broomwood, she worked in film production, notably for Warner Bros Productions, doing PR and script editing. She followed this with a stint as a theatrical agent and also spent two years reading the news on the radio. Her main task for NAEF is to provide support for the CEO and Trustees.

Nicky Williams
Director of Education & Country Representative
Nicky is a former Principal of a large secondary school and has over 20 years teaching and leadership experience in secondary and primary sectors in the U.K. and internationally. She has volunteered extensively, teaching children in poor areas of Mombasa, as well as teacher training in Ghana. Nicky is passionate about the right of education for all children, no matter where they live, their level of wealth, or their gender.
Birara Asmare
School Director
Birara has been at St George’s School for 3 years. As an orphan himself, he identifies strongly with the children and is passionate about this project. He plays a key part helping to find the children most in need of St George’s help. He has a Diploma in Education, a Degree in Psychology and a Masters Degree in Social Psychology. Birara is also a Deacon in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.
Fikre Assefa
Head of Finance & Operations
Fikre has held this position at St George's for 2 years. He studied at the University of Bahir Dar and has a BA in Accounting & Management. Fikre has previously worked with NGOs, spending 2 years with the Ethiopian Red Cross Society, and has worked in both private and government organisations in administration and finance. He is licensed as an authorised accountant.
