Appeal for help 2024

Now more than ever, amidst intense conflict and rapid inflation in Ethiopia, we are appealing to you to help support our children at St George's School. We are so grateful for any donation to help our children.

Please watch our Christmas Appeal. It shows the devastating war which continues aside St George’s School. Your donations will help our children find safety and security at St George’s. A haven from the terrible surroundings of war and conflict.

Please support all that you can.

Sadly since early summer 2023,  conflict and violence has returned to the Amhara region,  where St George's School is located. Many children are displaced from their homes and families. There are shortages of food and basic supplies.

Gondar has been in a State of Emergency since early summer 2023 with over 60 people killed in the streets.

Communication networks have been mostly shut down with no wifi and little to no phone network coverage.

Inflation is at an all time high. Basic foods and supplies are averaging triple their normal costs making them unaffordable for many families. The black market is rife with some products up to five times their usual costs.

Your support will enable us to help the families at St George's this Christmas season.

Thank you.

This is our 2022 Appeal video which portrays the conflict and harsh conditions that St George’s has been operating under for over 2 years now.

Please do support our Appeal in whatever way you can.

We are so grateful for any donation. We understand there is much conflict in the world at the moment and we hope that you can continue to support our endeavours to help these very deprived children in Ethiopia.

Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic and the very difficult Cost of Living Crisis we are now experiencing globally, some of our previous dedicated child sponsors have had to leave our sponsorship programme for our children in St George’s.

Now more than ever we greatly need new sponsors for our children in St George’s. If you are already a sponsor we thank you so very much. If you can send this email/ link to families/ friends we would be so grateful.

What We Do

NAEF’s mission is to build an educated community of future leaders in Ethiopia.

The charity has earned a reputation for changing the social structure in Gondar by developing some of Ethiopia’s most employable young adults.

We aim to deliver a well-rounded education based on values of respect, responsibility, honesty and kindness.

We have created an educational and communal centre at St George’s School, with the potential to impact the immediate community of 50,000 people.

What have we done so far?

  • Construction of a high-quality campus in Gondar, Ethiopia, delivering primary school education based on the English curriculum

  • Empowered local children to be self-disciplined and confident, building into responsible citizens with a sense of duty and responsibility

  • Helping these children to develop their future employability, bringing prosperity to their families and local community

When a child starts at St George’s School, we know they have a formative schooling path ahead of them. It’s a path we wholeheartedly believe can change lives
— Ann-Marie Rania, Executive Director, NAEF

Why Ethiopia?

THE CHALLENGE

Over 30% of Ethiopians survive on $2 per day or less. Most children in the Amhara district of Ethiopia are illiterate, limiting future working opportunities and a life out of poverty.

THE SOLUTION

Carols by Candlelight 2023

On November 30th, we held our annual Carols by Candlelight Concert at St Luke’s Church, Clapham.

It was a superb evening of singing and community spirit, with a great turnout to support NAEF and  St George’s Ethiopia.

Thank you to all of our sponsors and donors who attended. Thank you also to our donors that supported us from afar.

We had the pleasure of the listening to beautiful hymns sung by Broomwood Children’s and Adult choirs, along with Opera Holland Park who performed a poignant composition by Adrian Munsey. We welcomed Anneka Rice and Kathy Lette as our esteemed readers, and thank them for their time.

It was an extremely unique evening which raised in excess of £12,000 for St George’s.

Without your continued support, the valuable work that we do for hundreds of children in St George’s would not be possible.

Thank you for your support.
